MakerHoard

Windows model library · practical guide

Choosing an STL file manager for Windows.

Look for a workflow that makes models easier to find while keeping the original project files usable. MakerHoard is one early-beta option to evaluate.

Start with the problem your folders cannot solve

If you only have a few clearly named projects, ordinary folders may be enough. A visual library becomes more useful when similar filenames, variants, and reference files make it hard to find the right model.

A practical evaluation checklist

Where MakerHoard fits

The development build includes a local library, project packages, previews, metadata, and file handoff flows. It is intended to work alongside folders and slicers. Public-installer coverage and reliability still need validation; this is not an independent ranking or a claim that MakerHoard is the best tool.

Test with five representative projects

  1. A simple STL.
  2. A project with multiple model variants.
  3. A 3MF saved by your usual design or slicing tool.
  4. A model with images and notes.
  5. A larger file that resembles your everyday work.

Try each task yourself: find, preview, organize, export, and reopen. Record failures with the exact app version and file type.

What is outside the current promise

Do not choose earlier beta builds for a ready-to-use OCR translation runtime, delivered multi-user collaboration, or NAS Workers. Agent and AI workflows require configuration. Read the feature status before deciding.

Windows requirements

The project targets Windows 10/11 x64. macOS and Linux are not supported download options. Installer and update acceptance are separate from the development feature list.

Try a small collection first

Use copies of a few projects, keep your originals backed up, and check the actual beta behavior before importing a large library. The development screenshots do not establish that every feature is in the earlier installer.
